Verb Syndicate is home to several sub brands and products that form a wider offering of services and platforms. These sub-brands can be activated dependant on the client brief (or where you want a little more “brand-name-for-your-buck”). When we first opened our doors in 2008, the city of Wollongong was undergoing a rapid transformation from heavy industry port to a hub of technology and innovation. In a bid to re-think how a city infrastructure could collaborate with the creative industries, we spent the next decade collaborating with councils, state governments, academic institutions, tourism boards, developers and cultural planners over a range of projects to build artistic capability at scale. The effect was undeniable: a flurry of arts and music festivals, a hive of retail and tourism activity and a booming, self-sufficient cultural scene largely driven and supported by those in our orbit.
Wollongong today is the living embodiment of our ideals; a hyper-viable model for banding governments, brands and independent artists and organisations working together for something greater than what any one project might allow.
It was during this time that we founded Australia’s premier street art festival — Wonderwalls® — now a world-class public arts program credited with revitalising entire city precincts. In the five years since conception we’ve just about run out of canvases in the Gong. Now we’ve expanded our operation adding another two programs to the Verb Syndicate brand, Street Museum - an app based public art tour guide, as well as More Things Like This - a community engagement collective and brand offered to government institutions.
Wonderwalls® is one of Australia’s largest and longest-running street art festivals, with over 150+ walls painted across the country in it’s 10 years. Wonderwalls® is supported by Destination NSW and Destination Wollongong and is credited with creating large-scale social and economic growth in both Wollongong & Port Kembla.
Street Museum is Australia’s newest interactive app based street art tour - available from the App and Google Play stores. The app enables users to explore public artwork in there city as they’re guided by the Street Museum beacon technology. As users approach artworks, content like BTS photos and podcasts are fed directly into their phone.
More Things Like This is a creative collective and community engagement brand offered to government institutions who seek to engage with their local community through art and culture. In 2021 More Things Like This played host to Shellharbour City Council’s summer mural event.
